can i import and export .x file in blender 2.7? I realize I'm late to the party, but “Import/Export: DirectX X Format” is the add-on you want (it comes with Blender—at least it came with mine, 2.79 from Steam—, so no need to install it).
As for planes, I said I added plane rename in import script, so you have nothing else to bother about. As for PSD, again, Blender can only import (in this script or anywhere in textures, nodes, Image Editor, etc.) some kind of PSDs, those saved with maximum compatibility setting in Photoshop iirc. Gimp's ones, e.g., do not load. Left-click again on File | Import | Images as Planes in the top-left menu on the main header of the Blender UI. Browse to the location where you placed your templates folder and this time load the gidiosaurus_side.png image.

As you said, “Diffuse & Transparent” and “Emission & Transparent” has been omitted in Blender versions since Blender2.76. So, if you want to make a plane with transparent and diffuse, Turn on “Use Alpha” in Import Option panel, and select “Diffuse” in Material Settings panel. I tested it in Blender 2.77a, and it worked. For some quick testing it would be nice to be able to have access to the render slots as a way to choose between rendered images, as an input for compositor nodes. 1 Oct 2018 Getting the model ready for Blender was achieved by importing the latest MDL X-Plane does not require an extensive material setup as MSFS.

XPlane2Blender does not have the capability to import into Blender. It only exports from Blender to X-Plane. I think the name is misleading because it used to have the capability, not anymore. I have yet to find a python script (to reverse the process) that works for the version of Blender that I use (2.83.2).
However, this splitting looses the vertex order which is needed when using OBJ-files as morph targets. In Blender, you will find that using a popular Add-on called Import Images as Planes is the best option. The Add-on will import the texture to a plane using the same proportions of your image file. It can also automatically create all the Nodes necessary to display your texture with an alpha channel.

As far as i know it - You can start to build your own NEW aircraft INSIDE Blender and then EXPORT them => via the B2FSX Toolkit => INTO FSX. I do not know (yet) how to do it the other way around IMPORTING FSX Aircraft INTO Blender.. 2 articles that get your started about possibilities you have with the B2FSX toolkit:
